Salary

Average Salary: $25,000

Expected Lifetime Earnings: $1,044,000

This isn't the Secret Service or private protection. Many of the entry level jobs in mall security are part-time hourly positions that require little training or education; most positions aren't going to have salaries in the stratosphere. The average salary is around $25,000, meaning the starting salaries are likely to be even lower than that (source).

It's important to remember that although you may start off at the minimum, that number is going to rise based on your specific qualifications. Do you have any certifications? Raise. Have you studied psychology or how to work with crowds? Bump it up. Can you get a tantrum-throwing adult who got the wrong dip from Wetzel's Pretzels to calm down and even apologize for their behavior? Here's a bonus.

Then comes the experience you get on the job; with enough of it you can actually start making a decent wage. Maybe you'll get promoted to director of mall security. These folks average closer to $50,000 (source). With enough experience and expertise, you might even make more than some of the less-successful businesses on a day-to-day basis.

But let's not forget the ultimate reason to have this job: the mall-related perks. Typically, you'll get health care and insurance—the last thing malls want is a security officer getting hurt defending the mall, then not being able to pay for the rehab.

You'll usually also get a mall employee discount in every single store, from the department stores to the kiosks to the Panda Express in the food court. If you enjoy the mall and don't mind eating every meal under the fluorescent lights, then your rewards could be endless.
