20-Year Prospect
The real estate market can be volatile, and when it's feeling particularly fickle, it can cause a lot of people in real-estate-dependent jobs to quickly get dependent on something else. Just look at the National Association of Mortgage Brokers, which saw its membership plummet by over 60% in just three short years between 2007 and 2010 (source).
No one can really predict a crisis, and while people's interest in buying and selling chunks of Earth isn't going anywhere, the regulations and market guiding those transactions are constantly changing. Will mortgage brokers be able to survive those changes? Probably. But not all of them. This is a risky business to get into right now.
