Glory

Behind every bustling metropolis or ecologically sustainable housing development, there's a good urban planner. And behind every good urban planner is a wall filled with certificates of appreciation he made for himself. Although largely a thankless and anonymous job, this career does have its rewards. You just have to go outside to see them.

Whether you work in a small town or a big city, at some point you'll be able to see how your vision and your plan changed the lives of others. Maybe it's a new bike path, or a playground, or a previously abandoned industrial area that now bustles with chic new shops and trendy cafes. You may even visit these shops from time to time and pat the owners affectionately on the head; a tear trickling down your cheek.

If you want to dream big, you can apply for an award from a professional society, like the American Planning Association or ECTP-CEU (we'll let you google that one). You may find some local renown, as well. Perhaps you'll be photographed for the newspaper at a public event, or be invited to a luncheon of lawmakers. Be sure to order the lobster, we hear it's great.
