This Common Core Standard makes students delve deep into the text and analyze paragraphs sentence by sentence. This may seem painful to students, especially when the purposes of many sentences are pretty self-explanatory; however, students need to truck through the mundane activity in order to fulfill this standard. At the very least, interesting articles (such as some about the coolest underwater creatures or the Gilroy Garlic Festival) might make the analysis students will have to do more enjoyable.
