Common Core Standards
Grade 8
Reading RI.8.10
By the end of the year, read and comprehend literary nonfiction at the high end of the grades 6-8 text complexity band independently and proficiently.
If this standard were a garden gnome and its Reading: Literature counterpart were also a garden gnome, they'd be the same model of gnome but differently colored. Okay, point is that they're really similar, so take a look at our description for the Reading: Literature standard for what we want to say about this one. Just replace anything related to literature with non-fiction as you read.
