- After a long time at the camp, Josef stumbles upon some fellow prisoners who are plotting an escape. He decides to join them.
- Josef is supposed to be the lookout, but there's one problem: an informant has already ratted out the would-be escapees.
- Josef's co-conspirators are captured. But Josef isn't, because he was last to join the plot, so the informant didn't even know he existed. Whew.
- Josef realizes that this is his opportunity and runs for it.
- A woodcutter finds Josef in the forest. This guy is a partisan, which means not going to turn Josef in. Lucky break.
