- Over time, Josef too became a partisan. He got to know the various members of his band.
- His group planned a raid that was so risky Josef thought it was bound to be a suicide mission. No one was willing to admit it but him.
- Josef ends up staying behind, and everyone else dies. Yup, suicide mission was right.
- Alone again, Josef sets out on his own again to walk all the way back to Poland.
