- Jason stays close to home for a few days. He starts work on a comic book based upon the Midnight Mass, adding a scene where three commandments are etched into the walls of the tank.
- He tries to read the books his dad gave him, but suffers from near-terminal boredom.
- On Tuesday when his mom leaves for bridge Jason goes to check on Shin. Shin is standing on his roof, with a rope tied around his waist (the other end to the chimney). He is practicing—he's going to climb the tower.
- Jason tries to talk him out of it, but Shin is adamant. He tells Jason he doesn't take the whole thing seriously enough. "'He talks to me, you know. I hear what he says'" (24.36). He yells at Jason for letting Henry spoil things, and for leaving him.
- Jason is mondo freaked out. Then Shin's mom gets home and assumes that Jason has put Shin up to climbing the roof so she banishes him.
- On his way home Jason remembers that Henry should be out of the hospital now.
