The Great Wide Sea Chapter 32 Summary

  • The next day, the kids dig out the dinghy. Now they're well and truly stranded.
  • Ben starts to think toward the future. He's hopeful that they'll be rescued, but he knows he needs to carefully ration food and water.
  • Ben tells Dylan they need to explore the island. Maybe there are people, if they're lucky.
  • Dylan and Ben are still arguing about what happened to their dad. Ben is convinced he killed himself.
  • The boys go hiking. They eat some moldy breakfast bars along the way. No one's happy. The landscape is stunning, though.
  • At one point, Ben thinks he hears a snake. It's just a giant lizard. Yay?
  • They reach a high point and survey the island. Deserted. They can even see out to sea. The Chrysalis has finally sunk. R.I.P.
  • Everyone's feeling depressed. Again.
