The 5th Wave Chapter 39 Summary

  • Sammy dreams of his mother sometimes. Well, that's not quite right. When he sees her, it's as he's falling asleep. It happens now, just as Sammy falls asleep.
  • Finally, the bus arrives at Camp Haven. Sammy wakes up.
  • Sammy notices that Camp Haven has electricity. Hmm. Interesting.
  • Megan begs Sammy not to leave.
  • A guy named Major Bob boards the bus. He says that reds are getting off the bus. Greens are going to the hospital.
  • Megan whispers to Sammy that she's not going to go.
  • Again, she begs Sammy not to leave her. When he gets off the bus, she tries to sneak off, too.
  • A soldier pulls her back on the bus. Sammy hears Megan screaming as the bus pulls away.
  • Parker leaves Sammy, who has to be processed. As Sammy waits, he's haunted by Megan's screams.
  • The children are escorted one by one into a back room. Sammy waits for about an hour until it's his turn.
  • A nurse leads Sammy into the shower. She says they're checking for lice.
  • He puts on a paper robe and goes into the next room. Sammy begins to worry that he's going to have to have a shot.
  • A second nurse asks Sammy a bunch of questions. When they're done, she tells Sammy the doctor will arrive soon.
  • Here's Dr. Pam. So now we're pretty sure that Sammy is in the same place as Zombie. Interesting.
  • Now Sammy's getting a tracking device. We know that Zombie got one, too.
  • Sammy's horrified. His worst fear has come true: he has to get a shot. Dr. Pam comforts him.
