- D-503 watches the ceremony and feels suddenly a little twitchy and nervous.
- He spots S-4711, talking with I-330 and R-13. He gets a little green-eyed.
- A vote is taken, with everyone supposed to be voting for the Well-Doer in unison. But a small percentage of the crowd votes "nay."
- His jealousy overwhelms him and he confronts R-13, telling him to get up off of his woman. R-13 complies and D-503 carries I-330 away.
- Some ways away, she tells him excitedly that "Tomorrow, nobody knows what… do you understand? Neither I nor anyone else knows; it is unknown!" (25.33)
