- 00:03
A little birdie told us you wanted to shmoop a math problem...
- 00:08
A half dozen super-smart Martians took an IQ test to see how
- 00:12
they matched up with the average human brain.
- 00:15
Find the median of their IQ scores.
- 00:17
Here they are: 120, 206, 138, 198, 150, and 175.

And here are the potential answers...
- 00:29
So what's this problem asking?
- 00:30
Well, it's really more of a vocab question than a math problem.
- 00:33
The word of the day...
- 00:35
MEDIAN Uh... the mathematical median.
- 00:40
But the idea comes from the same place -- road medians divide things in the middle.
- 00:45
For median calculations we first put the numbers in order, low to high.
- 00:49
We sing the song: you know how it goes...
- 00:51
C'mon now sing it with me... Throw out the high.... throw out the low...
- 00:55
throw out the high... throw out the low....
- 00:58
And uh... here we stop. Works great on campfire with marshmallows.
- 01:02
We have two left -- 150 and 175.
- 01:05
To get the median, we just average the last two.
- 01:08
150 plus 175 is 325... divided by two and you get 162.5.
- 01:14
So the answer is C.
- 01:16
"As in, "Come in peace."
