Glory
Like many jobs in the public sector, there is plenty of recognition within the smaller communities with which the job intersects. There are dozens of privately- and publicly-funded wildlife and preservation organizations, and all of them want to tell you how awesome you are.
Some awards are more prestigious than others, such as the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Bradley Award, named for the aforementioned Guy "Bird Martyr" Bradley and given each year to recognize lifetime contributions by individuals to wildlife preservation and law enforcement (source). It's like the Oscars, only the winners actually make a difference. There's also a museum dedicated to the profession: The North American Game Officer Museum at the U.S./Canadian border where North Dakota meets Manitoba. That's right: a museum so prestigious, two countries want to own it.
