Odds of Hanging On
For argument’s sake (come on, you’re good at that), let’s pigs fly, hell freezes over, and you close your first settlement as a lawyer for Philip Morris, the leading cigarette manufacturer in the U.S. Here’s more or less what’s going to happen: a couple of old white guys who run the entire company (Altria, not just Philip Morris) are going to stop by your new office, clap you on the back, and say, “Welcome to the family, kid.” And then, as is the case in most normal, functional families, you’re in. That’s all there is to it. You’ve demonstrated that you understand the company culture, and that you can deliver the goods. What more can they want? If you want it, you’ll have this job for a long time.
