Are you directly responsible for your company's profits and losses? Some marketing managers are. These folks are the ones who've proven themselves; the ones who've shown again and again that they can take products and services and generate lots and lots of moolah for their employers. When you're a moneymaker, you call the shots on products, your colleagues must obey your every whim, and you may even have a big say in which direction your company goes next.
Of course, if you're a newbie at marketing management, or if you're just kind of vanilla at your job, then you won't have much power. You'll have to rely on your wits, charm, and communication skills (also known as groveling) when it comes to getting what you want with regards to marketing your company's products and services.
