Odds of Getting In
From the government to private industry to health insurance companies, there are over 60,000 jobs considered health and safety specialist positions (source). Every state has its own team, and each major city does too. Meanwhile, companies regularly inspect themselves just to make sure they're on track to avoid as many lawsuits as possible.
Lots of inspectors maintain their positions for many decades, but there are a number of positions opening up due to retirement, or old age, or the inspector just not caring anymore (source). If you have the degree, the coordination, the skills, the attention to detail, and the willingness to be the most hated person in the workplace, there should eventually be a position for you. That's a winning combination.
