Everyone's heard of Sigmund Freud, but do you know why he's arguably the most famous psychologist in history? Freud pioneered "talking therapy," or psychoanalysis—the most popular type. That's the one with the couch (or, usually just a chair these days). There are several other branches of psychology, including cognitive behavioral therapy and cognitive therapy. Cognitive therapy is commonly used to treat a number of mental illnesses, problems, and disorders.
What most people know of Freud are some of his controversial theories such as the Oedipal complex. The theory stems from a Greek story. In the story, Oedipus Rex is given up at birth because it was predicted that he would kill his father and marry his mother when he grew up. The prophecy came true. During the course of a boy's childhood, he feels desire for his mother and jealousy for his father, which results in a feeling of competition for her affections.
According to Freud's theory, a man wishes to replace his father. Yikes. This theory has been argued in contemporary psychology (and a lot of Freud's theories have been proved to be flat-out wrong), which is why Freud is still a controversial figure.
Fame isn't likely to come to you, but it could if you make great advancements in your field or write a revolutionary book. For example, your book could be a combination compact and makeup case. We don't believe that's ever been done before.
