Odds of Getting In
The odds of getting into the psychology biz are pretty good—employment is expected to grow in the coming years. There's an increased demand for psychologists in hospitals, social services, and treatment clinics. Those earning a doctoral degree with a focus in a specialty such as child psychology have a better chance of finding a job. You can either focus on a particular field of psychology when going into a doctoral program, or you can be a "general psychologist," who treats a variety of psychological disorders.
Industrial-organization psychology is very competitive. To "keep up with the Joneses," make good grades and choose an internship that will give you plenty of experience. That'll show those stuck-up Joneses.
