Great communication is developed over time and with frequent practice, so in this case, it's no surprise that Common Core asks us to provide plenty of time and space for practicing this skill. Get 'em in pairs, small groups, or whole groups, and get them chatting—of course, help them to stay on topic. They'll not only be practicing this skill, but they'll also be learning. Bonus.
