- Pearl goes over to Greenie's pad, where Hickey gives her the envelope—inside there's $250 cash with a little note.
- Pearl hides the note so she doesn't have to answer any more questions about it.
- Her friends are curious about the pile of cash with Pearl's name on it, though, (because of course they are), so she fibs and tells them that she helps Hoyt out with paying the workers' wages sometimes. Now that she's in charge of the finances, all the money goes through her.
- Greenie and Hickey are still a little unclear as to why she would get any money out of it, but they let it go. Pearl tries to give Hickey $20 for giving her the envelope, but he refuses.
- Pearl realizes that Amiel's medical bill was $240, so this must be from him to repay Agnès. She stuffs the money in her bag and runs home.
