Pamela Chapter 47 Summary

Monday

  • Suspicious things are afoot. Mr. Williams has written Mrs. Jewkes to say he was robbed upon leaving their house the day before. He's a bit roughed up but otherwise fine.
  • Luckily, he was carrying Pamela's letter in his "bosom," so at least that's safe (47.2).
  • Mrs. Jewkes cracked up when she heard the news, which Pamela finds "barbarous" (47.4).
  • Oh! Also, Pamela tried to escape when Mrs. Jewkes was off visiting Mr. Williams… but she didn't get far before she was scared off by two cows.
  • Hey, cows are big.
