Stress

Jake pinched Suzie over by the tire-swings again. Emma won’t stop eating sand. And oh, shoot. Where's Ben? He was right here a minute ago….

Being a nanny or an au pair is tough. It's like plant sitting, except the plants are little humans who get cranky and start to whine if you forget to give them water. And sometimes, these plants want things other than water. Like Skittles that will ruin their teeth, or that shiny new Tonka truck that you're not allowed to buy them. These plants also have bedtimes, and carpools, and homework.

Oh, and they can also move. Alarmingly fast, and in all directions (including "towards the street where all the even faster moving cars are"). So you need to watch their every move.

Stressful? Yes, definitely. Your nerve endings are going to be more frayed than the hem on that hippie sweater your mom keeps hidden in the back of her closet. But you'll also have time off to relax, to meet up with friends, and if you're an au pair, to travel and tour a foreign city. And every once in a while, the kids might give you a nice little card or a hug that melts your stress away. Hey, it could happen.
