Glory
The people designing and engineering our ships aren't exactly halting global warming or feeding the hungry, but that doesn't mean what they're doing is glory-less. The world needs ships, and if the majesty of a gigantic floating hotel-resort is something awe-inducing for you, then being the person who gets to design those resorts is probably pretty glorious.
That said, within the field of shipwrighting itself, there are some low-level, no-one-but-your-mom-will-know-of-it awards and plaques and certificates to affirm your awesomeness at your job. Providing, of course, that you actually are awesome at your job. Maybe you'll win one of those.
