Common Core Standards
Grade 7
Reading RL.7.1
Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
With this standard, we're halfway there between the introduction of text analysis in sixth grade and the mastering of basic analysis in eighth grade. In other words, when students practice this standard, they should be using multiple pieces of evidence in their analysis, but not as few as a sixth grader would while also not as many as an eighth grader would. The strength of the student's chosen quotes do not necessarily have to be the best ones, either, unlike those of an eighth grader.
