Description:

Times change, climates change, but not us. We'll never change. No matter how stinky our clothes get. We've got to set a good example for the climate, right? We like it just the way it is.

[Dino and Coop singing]

00:13

Each year, when winter turns to spring and the weather grows warmer, people everywhere

00:17

celebrate by doing things that seem totally nuts: [Ice cream van]

00:19

Riding funny-shaped boards on scary-huge ocean waves... [Man surfing]

00:23

Putting on ridiculous-looking goggles and oversized rubber socks in order to stare at [Girl diving]

00:26

a bunch of fish...

00:27

And sliding half-naked down colorful plastic tubes with the express purpose of crash-landing [Boy riding a water slide]

00:32

at the end.

00:33

Man…what a strange species we are…

00:35

But while the weather getting warmer each year is generally seen as a good thing, the [Girl at an ice cream stand]

00:39

climate getting warmer overall certainly isn't.

00:42

And sure, it doesn't seem that much hotter each summer, but that doesn't mean climate [Thermometer showing a high temperature]

00:45

change isn't happening.

00:47

Scientists are finding evidence of it all over the place, and rising temperatures seem [Coop pointing at a blackboard]

00:51

to be a new trend…

00:52

And unlike Pokémon Go, this is a trend we're not super excited about… [Someone playing Pokemon Go on their phone]

00:56

But what exactly is all of this evidence they're finding?

00:59

Well, for starters, polar ice is melting at a rapid rate.

01:02

It's also getting hotter in cold places, and drier in places that are usually wet. [River dries to sand]

01:06

Sounds like future waterslide adventures will be pretty painful. [Boy slides into sand]

01:09

There are also more severe storms, hurricanes and tornadoes now than we've seen in the past [Satellite view of a hurricane]

01:13

100 years.

01:15

So, yup…there's been a lot of strange and unusual things that have been observed in

01:18

recent years.

01:19

And these changes don't just impact the Earth itself…they impact humans and animals, too. [Dino pointing at a blackboard]

01:24

Because surprisingly enough, neither of us like the idea of a tornado ripping through [Tornado takes a house into the air]

01:28

our homes.

01:29

Go figure.

01:30

But these changes affect us in other smaller ways too.

01:33

The melting ice causes the sea levels to rise, affecting the homes of those that live on

01:37

islands and near the shore. [The water rises and a beach house floats away]

01:39

And for some animals, the ice is where they call home. [Polar bears]

01:41

So when it melts, their home melts, too. [Polar bears stranded on an ice berg]

01:43

Another downside to the ice melting is that it allows the waters to grow warmer – because

01:48

while ice usually reflects the rays of the sun, the water absorbs it. [The ice reflecting rays]

01:52

Many animals require the water to be cold to survive, so as it heats up, things start

01:57

to look…a little bleak.

01:59

Between the giant storms, the rising water levels and the loss of homes for both humans [Fish on the water surface]

02:02

and animals, it should be fairly obvious that climate change isn't exactly a good thing [Coop pointing at a blackboard]

02:06

And if you're not totally convinced, just ask these penguins.

02:09

That is…if you can manage to squeeze onto that block of ice….man, this feels like [Iceberg full of penguins]

02:13

Titanic all over again… [Man holding onto the iceberg slips and falls under the water]
