Flora and Ulysses Chapter 56 Summary

Kidnapped!

  • Flora wakes up and wonders where Ulysses is.
  • She calls out for him, but there's no answer, so she goes downstairs to look for him, but all she finds is a note.
  • It says that he's fond of her but has to go because he hears the call of the wild. Right
  • She knows this isn't true because there's no way Ulysses would leave her life this, plus this doesn't even sound like his writing.
  • That's when she notices, down the bottom of the page, are the letters F and L.
  • Right away, she knows Ulysses was trying to type her name one last time—it's his way of saying he loves her.
  • She wishes she had told him she loved him before he left, but she didn't because she's a cynic.
  • Flora starts thinking about what she should do. She knows she's got to find Ulysses before her mom kills him, but who can she trust?
  • William Spiver, that's who.
