Flora and Ulysses Chapter 8 Summary

Helpful Information

  • Mrs. Tickham and Flora stand in awe as the squirrel lifts the vacuum cleaner over his head with one paw.
  • How can it be? Neither of them know, but clearly this is one special squirrel.
  • Still, Mrs. Tickham thinks she might have a brain tumor. What else would explain seeing a squirrel lift that?
  • Flora has another idea. She thinks the squirrel might be a superhero, just like Incandesto; after all, this is what always happens in superhero movies.
  • First there is a traumatic situation (like being vacuumed up but not dying), and then come the superhero powers (like a squirrel lifting a vacuum cleaner). Yep, seems about right to us.
  • Just then, Mr. Tickham shouts from inside the house that he's hungry, so his wife turns to go.
  • Before she does, though, Flora tells her not to tell anyone about this.
  • As Mrs. Tickham leaves, Flora notices the name of the vacuum cleaner: Ulysses. Hmmm… that seems like a good name for a superhero squirrel.
  • Come on, Ulysses, she says to the squirrel.
