Character Analysis
One of the pages who's friends with Jonathan and his crew, Alex is a "slim, dark boy" (2.71). Apparently he's pretty good at math, since Gary advises Alanna to ask him for help with her math homework. But when Duke Roger chooses Alex to be his squire, he grows a little more distant from the rest of his buds. Yeah, buddying up with a probably homicidal, traitorous maniac will do that.
