Character Analysis
The palace healer must be pretty good at his job—so it's odd that the Sweating Fever drains him so thoroughly. As he admits to Alanna when she comes to help Jonathan, "I'm very tired" (4.78). He doesn't think Alanna stands a chance at pushing back the fever that has killed a few of his healers already, but he lets her try after she gives him a taste of her magic to help reenergize him. Delicious.
