The Innkeeper and His Wife

Character Analysis

When Alanna and Coram leave Trebond, they stay at an inn the first night. Coram winds up drunk, but luckily these are helpful folks: "The innkeeper helped him to bed while his wife fussed over 'the poor wee lad'" (1.98). If nothing else, their response shows that Alanna's ploy to masquerade as a boy is off to a good start.
