Give Up on Wheat
- In the wake of Dewey's bad news, Ma tries to persuade Daddy to dig a pond to provide water for crops off their well. Daddy rejects the idea, saying that it will seep back into the ground and their well will go dry. When she suggests growing something else besides wheat, he gets angry and picks a fight with her, saying that she doesn't know anything about farming. Frustrated, Ma relieves her anger by doing housework.
