How do you use Shmoop?

I have been using Shmoop since the very beginning … I am in distance/online/blended learning and it takes lots of interactives to help keep students on the right track. Students love the videos and how they so concisely tell the story of the entire novel and help you understand it. Many times, students were going to try to get out of reading something—until they saw the video.

I also use Shmoop at home with my son. He said if all educational tools were like Shmoop, the world would be filled with geniuses.

True story.

What's your favorite Shmoop product?

Math Shack is one of my favorites, because I feel it really helped my son turn his grade around in math class. It made studying interactive, captivating, and yes...fun.

My favorites as a teacher are the Test Prep, Essay Lab, Teaching Guides, and Flashcards. They all are unique in what they offer to the teacher and/or student. Every single tool that Shmoop offers does what it is promised to do for the user. Shmoop just has to be used, that's the key.

What is the coolest experience you've had using Shmoop?

I would have to say that sitting here, at the computer, face-to-face with my son and seeing the pride he feels when he "can do math!" Shmoop helped build his confidence and gave him some of the oomph he needed to keep trying.

If you could take three fictional characters out to do karaoke, who would you take, and why?

If I could take three book characters out to do karaoke, it would be Boo Radley, because I think he could rap like nobody's business. I would also take Grendel from Beowulf; his voice lends itself well to hard rock, I think. And finally, I would take Frederick Douglass. He would have a soulful, beautiful, lyrical voice that would break your heart.

What would your job be on a zombie apocalypse team?

My job on the zombie apocalypse team would be first responder to help take down those zombies on the front line. My weapon of choice would be a razor-chete. It is a large garden type weapon that I use on large vines and weeds in the yard. Nobody knows that I have an extra one hidden as part of my zombie response arsenal...

Yikes. Watch out for Sheree—she's a fighter in the classroom and the backyard.
